Handling stolen goods

Handling stolen goods is the name of a statutory offence in England and Wales and Northern Ireland. It takes place after a theft or other dishonest acquisition is completed and may be committed by a fence or other person who helps the thief to realise the value of the stolen goods. It replaces the offence of receiving stolen goods under section 33 of the Larceny Act 1916.

Handling stolen property is the name of a statutory offence in the Republic of Ireland.

Stolen goods

This term means property stolen anywhere, as long as the theft amounted to an offence where committed. It includes any proceeds of that property, including money for which it has been sold, and anything bought with those proceeds.

However, property which has been returned to the original owner, or otherwise lawful custody, is no longer regarded as stolen, by section 24(3). This may create difficulties, as in Haughton v. Smith.

Anchor is a brand of dairy products that was founded in New Zealand in 1886 and is one of the key brands owned by the New Zealand-based international exporter Fonterra Co−operative Group. In Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan the Fernleaf brand is used in place of Anchor.

The Anchor brand In New Zealand

Historically the Anchor brand of milk products in New Zealand was owned by the New Zealand Dairy Group which merged with Kiwi Co−operative in 2001 to form the mega dairy Co−operative Fonterra. As this merger would leave New Zealand with virtually no competition in the domestic dairy sector, government legislation was required for Fonterra to be formed. One of the requirements was that Fonterra must divest its strongest domestic brand, Anchor, in the New Zealand market. This did not affect the brand internationally. The brand was sold to what is currently Goodman Fielder. Between 2001 and 2005 Fonterra grew one of their smaller milk brands which was originally only available in the South Island of New Zealand, 'Meadow Fresh Milk' into a nationwide brand which provided good competition to the Anchor Brand of milk products. In 2005 Fonterra did a brand swap with what is now Goodman Fielder, swapping Meadow Fresh for Anchor meaning Fonterra could once again align its international and domestic dairy brands.

Anchor leg

The anchor leg is the final position in a relay race. Typically, the anchor leg of a relay is given to the fastest or most experienced competitor on a team. The athlete completing the anchor leg of a relay is responsible for making up ground on the race-leader or preserving the lead already secured by their teammates. An anchor leg is typically part of a running relay, but may also be part of swimming, skiing or skating relays.

Famous anchor leg runners

"Bullet" Bob Hayes ran anchor leg for the United States 4×100 metres relay team in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Receiving the baton in fifth place, Hayes pulled ahead of four runners to win the race. A French rival, Jocelyn Delecour, remarked to the American lead-off runner Paul Drayton "You haven't got anything except Hayes", and Drayton responded "That's all we need, pal".

Carl Lewis never lost a race when he anchored the American 4×100 m relay team. He regularly ran under 9 seconds for his anchor legs and helped the team break the world record in the 4×100 m relay five times. The record set by the U.S. at the 1992 Summer Olympics of 37.40 seconds stood for 16 years.

Vessels (Wolf & Cub album)

Vessels is the first full length album from psychedelic rock group Wolf & Cub. It was recorded in Adelaide, Australia from April 2005 and released on 28 August 2006. The album was mixed by producer Tony Doogan after lead singer Joel Byrne travelled to Scotland for 3 weeks. Tony Doogan previously worked with artists such as Mogwai, Belle & Sebastian, Super Furry Animals, Dirty Pretty Things and The Mountain Goats. The album was mastered by Greg Calbi in New York. Vessels features nine completely new tracks from the band and a reworking of their earlier single "Steal Their Gold". It peaked in the top 100 of the ARIA Albums Chart.

Reception

The album was Drum Media's fifth most favoured album of 2006 as decided by over 20 reviewers. Internet publication and magazine, Mess + Noise, voted Vessels' album artwork as the best of 2006. The album was bestowed Album of the Week by popular alternative radio station Triple J in September.

Versions

Vessels was released on 28 August 2006 via Dot Dash in Australia. On 6 March 2007 it appeared on the 4AD label (home of TV on the Radio, Pixies, Breeders, Thievery Corporation, The Mountain Goats) elsewhere in the world. It comes in two formats: a standard jewel case edition and a limited edition digipak with embossed gold writing.

Vessels are an electronic post-rock band from Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Formed in 2005, they have released three studio albums.

History

On 5 March 2007, the band released a limited 7" single ("Yuki" / "Forever the Optimist") through Cuckundoo Records, and were tipped by BBC Radio 1 as one of the hottest new bands in the country. The band recorded a session for Huw Stephens's show on BBC Radio 1, which was broadcast on 29 March. This was followed by the addition of Peter Wright to the line-up. Another single, "Two Words & A Gesture", was released in November 2007.

Vessels travelled to Minneapolis, United States to record their debut album, White Fields and Open Devices, with producer John Congleton who had previously worked with fellow post-rock artists Explosions in the Sky and This Will Destroy You as well as Modest Mouse, at Pachyderm Studios in December 2007. They completed recording of the ten track album in twelve days and returned to the UK for a nationwide tour. On 16 June they released the single "A Hundred Times In Every Direction". Their debut album was released on 18 August.
